Government that steals your data

This isn't about fighting terrorism, it's all about spying on all citizens. Who will carry important files on laptops!? You can easily upload, and then download when you enter US gigabytes of data. You can even hide something like SD card in your shoes, or in thousand different places where it won't be seen on x-ray scanners. If you have sensitive informations there are thousand ways in which you can carry them over the border. On most laptops, cell phones, cameras there are just personal data. There is no reason why government should have that data. What's next - telescreens in our homes (those who read "1984" know what I'm talking about)?
